Infosys, a global IT services giant, has entered a strategic partnership with Lufthansa Group to establish a state-of-the-art Global Capability Center (GCC) in Bengaluru, India. This initiative, backed by a $300 million IT contract, is set to accelerate Lufthansa’s digital transformation journey and enhance its aviation technology capabilities.
Driving Innovation in Airline Operations
The upcoming GCC will focus on software and product development for Lufthansa Systems (LSY), particularly catering to external airline market customers. Infosys will bring its expertise in digital solutions, leveraging Infosys Topaz, an AI-first technology suite, to develop cutting-edge aviation IT products. These products will optimize core airline operations, including:
- Flight navigation and scheduling
- Finance and operational stability
- Aircraft and crew management
- Network optimization
Lufthansa’s Chief Information Officer, Thomas Rückert, highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating, “Infosys’ digital expertise and AI-powered solutions will play a crucial role in optimizing operations, improving passenger experiences, and ensuring a more resilient airline ecosystem.”
India: A Growing Hub for Global Airline Tech Centers
Lufthansa’s move aligns with a growing trend among global airlines setting up technology hubs in India to tap into its vast talent pool and cost-effective innovation ecosystem. Delta Airlines set up a tech center in Bengaluru four years ago, and American Airlines is currently establishing a similar facility in Hyderabad.
Infosys, known for its strong industry partnerships, has also collaborated with Rolls-Royce to develop an aerospace engineering and innovation center in Bengaluru. This latest GCC deal with Lufthansa further strengthens its position as a key player in aviation IT.
A Future-Ready Collaboration
Ashiss Kumar Dash, Executive Vice President at Infosys, emphasized the role of AI-driven solutions in transforming airline operations, stating, “With Infosys Topaz and our industry cloud solutions, we aim to help Lufthansa optimize its processes, drive efficiency, and enhance customer experiences.”
This partnership is expected to set new benchmarks for digital transformation in the aviation sector, enabling Lufthansa to navigate industry challenges with cutting-edge AI, data-driven decision-making, and sustainable solutions.
By harnessing Infosys’ expertise, Lufthansa is poised to create a smarter, more resilient aviation ecosystem, paving the way for a future where airlines operate more efficiently and deliver seamless travel experiences to passengers worldwide.
